Argentine passport visa-free travel: destinations and limits
A source-checked guide to selected destinations. Visa-free visits, electronic authorisations, visitor visas and residence rights are different categories.
What an ordinary Argentine passport changes
These are selected destination checks, not an exhaustive visa-free-country count. Rules depend on purpose, passport, history and travel date. Check the destination authority and carrier before booking.
| Destination | Category | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Schengen: e.g. Spain, France, Germany, Italy | Visa-free short visits | Normally 90 days in any 180; entry conditions; not general work/residence |
| United Kingdom | Visitor travel with ETA where required | Argentina is on the ETA list; an ETA is not a work/residence permission |
| Japan | Short-stay visa exemption | Argentina is on the official list; permitted visit activities still apply |
| Canada | Visitor visa or conditional eTA | Not blanket visa-free access; individual eTA conditions and transport mode matter |
| United States | Check the visitor-visa route | Argentina is not in the VWP country list checked here |
Europe is a visit rule, not EU citizenship
Schengen short-stay permission is not a right to live or take employment throughout the EU. Check the shared day allowance across countries, passport validity and entry evidence. ETIAS implementation must be checked on the official EU site for your actual travel date.
Regional residence is a separate procedure
Brazil publishes a Mercosur residence process for Argentine nationals. This is a route to investigate, with documentation and registration requirements. Do not convert it into a promise of automatic residence and employment everywhere in South America.
Travel with the passport your other citizenship requires
A dual citizen may need the home-country passport for a return journey. Nationality and consular-protection rules still apply even if another passport is used elsewhere. Compare your existing and prospective documents destination by destination.
