Confirm the property, who may rent it out and the written costs and conditions before making a commitment.

Before you start

A proposed property, the actual draft agreement and the date it will be signed.

Check the options before starting

Steps

  1. Confirm the address and condition of the property and the identity/authority of the owner or representative before transferring money.
  2. Ask in writing which identity, income evidence and guarantee the owner accepts. Do not assume every landlord accepts a passport or foreign salary.
  3. Read the written agreement: rent currency, adjustment formula and dates, term, deposit return, taxes/expenses, broker charges, repairs and early termination.
  4. Prepare an inventory and record existing damage, meter readings and key handover. Keep the signed agreement and payment receipts.
  5. Use the current official rental guidance for the contract date and local jurisdiction. Get a contract review if currency adjustments, fees or authority are unclear.

How to know you are done

The agreement and total costs are understood, authority and handover are checked, and copies/receipts are kept. This is an editorial preparation checklist.

A rental agreement must be written. Current guidance allows agreed term, currency, adjustments, deposit amount and repayment conditions. Housing expenses and repair responsibilities also matter. Older contracts can fall under earlier rules.

Applies when: A proposed rental agreement assessed under its contract date, terms and applicable jurisdiction.

What remains uncertain: Contract date, local rules and the agreed terms matter. Passport, guarantee and foreign-income acceptance are not universal entitlements.

Get case-specific review when: The contract, currency adjustment, charges, landlord authority or early termination is unclear.
